Mrs. Jessie Belle Draughn Hiatt, 83, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday evening, October 26, 2019, at Northern Regional Hospital. Mrs. Hiatt was born February 2, 1936, in Surry County, one of eight children born to the late Dan Wesley and Sadie Ann Robertson Draughn. As a child, Jessie was reared on a family farm in the Piney Grove community and attended Dobson School. She married Raybern Franklin Hiatt on November 30, 1956. Jessie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and a wonderful friend. She had such a vision to blend colors and types of flowers to create beautiful flower gardens. She was well known for the delicious cakes and pies that she delighted in cooking or baking for family and friends. With her many talents and gifts, sharing her love with others was effortless as she always greeted everyone with her warm smile. Jessie was a member of Woodville Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Raybern Franklin Hiatt of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra and Mickey Heath of Pilot Mountain and Penny McCoy of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Patricia Hiatt of Mount Airy; her grandchildren, Catrena and Steven Whitaker of Dobson, Santana and Jamie Fulp of King, Travis and Emily King of Greensboro, and Devin King, Hunter Hiatt, and Kassi Hiatt, all of Mount Airy; three great-grandchildren, Annabelle Needham, Jake Whitaker, and Finn King; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ruth and Jobe Marion of Mount Airy; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Bobby Draughn and Eddie and Sandra Draughn, all of Mount Airy, and Tommy and Sue Draughn of Dobson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hiatt was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Lou and Joel Marion; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wesley Junior and Minnie Mae Draughn, Ronnie Dale Draughn, and Edythe Draughn. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Woodville Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Kevin Kilby and the Rev. Rickey Martin officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
