Mr. Jimmy Lee Bunker, age 52 of Mount Airy, NC went peacefully home to the Lord on Sunday, December 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County, NC on November 5th, 1973 to James Garner Bunker and Karen Elaine Sawyer Bunker, and grew up in the White Plains community. Jimmy attended North Surry High School, Surry Community College and achieved several trade certifications from San Diego State University.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond and Georgia Bunker of Mount Airy and Victor and Doris Sawyer of Billerica, MA. In addition to his parents, Jimmy is survived by a daughter that he loved dearly, Hope Bunker Bowman (Mason); a brother, Matt Bunker (Angie); a sister, Lindsay Bunker Beal (Shane), a stepson Charles Crandall (Dianna); and 5 step grandchildren.
Jimmy led a successful career in the construction trade for many years and most recently was a project safety supervisor at Blum Construction in Winston-Salem. He took great joy in his family and he especially loved being a Papa to his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time restoring old cars and fixing almost anything that had parts. There wasn’t much that Jimmy couldn’t build or repair and he enjoyed immersing himself in side projects around his home.
While Jimmy battled illness over the last few years of his life, he deeply appreciated those who walked alongside him to help him in times of need. He remembered each act of kindness and care given to him, and fought his fight the very best that he could. Jimmy made his family proud by the character and person that he was.
In lieu of formal services, the family has decided to grieve Jimmy’s loss privately at this time, but welcome condolences and messages online.
