Mr. Jimmy Dean McMillian, 86, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, July 30, 2025, at Surry Community Health Center by Harborview. Mr. McMillian was born February 27, 1939, in Surry County, the youngest of four children born to the late Lacy Thompson and Hazel Lena Sutphin McMillian. Jimmy was raised in the Flat Rock community and graduated from Flat Rock High School in 1958. He spent many years working at United Plastics, where he was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and warm demeanor. After retiring, he continued his service to others as a funeral assistant at Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy, offering comfort and care to families during their most difficult times. A longtime member of Flat Rock Baptist Church, Jimmy was deeply rooted in his faith and committed to his church family. He was also a proud and an active member of Pilot Masonic Lodge #493 AF and AM, where he served as Master in 1975. His life was a testament to the Masonic principles of brotherhood, charity, and integrity. In his free time, Jimmy found great joy in being outdoors. Whether fishing or simply enjoying the fresh air, he had a deep appreciation for nature and the quiet peace it offered. Jimmy will be remembered for his kindness, steady presence, and sharp sense of humor – a man who gave freely of himself and asked for little in return. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jayne Norman McMillian; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melody and Anthony Blackburn and Alicia and Chris Fallaw; his grandchildren, Katie and Daniel Givens, Annie and Jeremiah Woolwine, Sarah and Luke Hudson, McKenly Fallaw, Westin Fallaw, and Rhett Fallaw; three great-grandchildren, Byron Givens, Braelyn Givens, and Korben Woolwine; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. McMillian was preceded in death by his stepmother, Ethel Loftis McMillian; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bessie and Hoover Sawyers and Mary Ellen and Grady Tolbert; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Mary McMillian. A graveside service will be held Sunday, August 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Woodville Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Rusty Reed, the Rev. Todd E. Byrd, and Dr. Jon Cawley officiating. At the conclusion of the service, Masonic rites will be conducted by Pilot Masonic Lodge #493 AF and AM. No formal visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Flat Rock Baptist Church, P.O. Box 587, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
