Mr. Jimmy Nathan Draughn, 80, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, September 2, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Draughn was born October 8, 1944, in Surry County, one of six children born to the late Dallas David and Anna Smith Draughn. Jimmy grew up in the White Plains community and graduated from North Surry High School in 1962. He worked for many years as the warehouse manager at Pike Electric. Following his retirement from Pike, he continued his career at Statewide Utility Products. An avid outdoorsman, Jimmy loved hunting and fishing whenever he had the opportunity. More importantly, he lived out his faith as a longtime, devoted member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. Over the years, he served faithfully in many roles, including deacon, deacon chair, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and as a member of the Pastor Search Committee. He also found joy in watching Billy Graham’s televised services and reading his books. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Julia and John Fansler; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Mary Draughn; five grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Rudy and Karen Draughn; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Janie Draughn, Richard Starr, Nellie and Terry Thomas, Ruth McHone, and Charles and Donna Marion; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Draughn was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Marion Draughn; two sisters, Peggy Mosley and Bertie Starr; and two brothers, Lonnie Draughn and Gene Draughn. A service of worship and celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held Friday, September 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Piney Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eddie Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the church. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love, care, and compassion shown by the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 1022, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
