Mrs. JoAnn Felts Cassell, age 80 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully Tuesday March 3, 2026, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem surrounded by her family. She was born October 2, 1945, in Surry County to the late Franklin Benjamin Felts and Josie Ellen Culler Felts.
She was a God-fearing woman—a devoted mother and proud grandmother who never missed an opportunity to encourage and pray for her family. She never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone feel like family. No one could meet her without receiving a big hug and an “I love you.”
Her faith was not just something she spoke about, but something she lived out daily through prayer, love, and an unwavering faith and trust in Jesus. She loved sharing what the Lord had done in her life through testimonies of His goodness. She also loved to sing, lifting her voice in praise and worship, filling the room with songs of faith that she cherished so deeply.
Many of us are walking in—and will continue to walk in—answered prayers because of her faithful intercession. As she took her last breath on this side of eternity, we rejoice knowing that she received her ultimate healing and was welcomed into Heaven with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23)
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 65 years, Rev. Douglas MacArthur Cassell; son, Douglas Michael Cassell and wife Eva; daughter, Michelle Banks and husband Ronnie; 9 grandchildren, Logan Banks, Jaclyn (Ryan) Brickell, Kimberly (Ethan) Wike, Amanda Miller, Cam (Josh) Nichols, Sarah (Terry) Smith, Kelsey (Colton) Hoehn, Matthew (Keira) Cassell, and Ethan (MacKenzie) Cassell; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Verdine Puckett; brother, Douglas Felts; and a host of other family and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cassell was preceded in death by three sisters, Barbara Ellen Felts Freeman, Christine Felts Sawyers, and Octavia Felts White; and a brother, Rev. Jimmy Dexter Felts.
