JoAnn (Davis) Newman

Mrs. JoAnn Davis Newman, age 90 of Mount Airy, passed away on Sunday morning, October 22, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  Mrs. Newman was born October 10, 1933, Payne County, Oklahoma to the late Gilbert and Thelma Stinnett Davis.  JoAnn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, sister, and friend.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.  Surviving is her daughter and son-in-law, Bobbie Newman Thornburg and husband Tommy; son and a daughter-in-law, James Newman and wife Lana; nine grandchildren and spouses, Wendy and Steve Allen, Chris Newman, Matthew Newman, Richard Fernandez, Bridgette Browder, Crystal and Scott Jenkins, Sheena and Dusty Slate, Stephanie and Josh Carico, Kaley and Will Jurney; twenty-six great-grandchildren, twelve great great-grandchildren, a sister, Darlene Noyes; two special friends, Rex and Gaye Tolliver; and the two loves of her life, Bentley Browder, Rilynn Browder.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Bobby Newman, two daughters, Beverly Jean Newman, Linda Marie Newman; three sons, Billy Bryan Newman, Donald Lynn Newman, Mikel Dean Newman; and a brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert Leon and Vivian Davis.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Pastor Butch Holder officiating.  Interment will follow in the Holy Cross Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
