Joe Dean Sutphin

Mr. Joe Dean Sutphin, 77, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012 at his home. Mr. Sutphin was born in Surry County on August 17, 1934 to the late George Lee and Sarah Elsie Hicks Sutphin. He was retired from the city of Winston-Salem. He served our country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Tanya and Richard Wampler of Rocky Mount, VA; grandchildren, Thomas and his wife Courtney of Elizabethton, TN.; Bennett and his wife, Carrie of Roanoke, VA, Alton, Joseph, Fran and Kateleigh all of Rocky Mount, VA; a sister Betty Key of Mt. Airy; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sutphin was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Hiatt, Clarice Hall, Bessie Short, Frances McCadams, Lois Short, Savannah Midkiff and Katherine Sutphin; and five brothers, Woodrow, Jack, John, Donald, and George A. Sutphin. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 30, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Griffith and Rev. Dewey Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in Midkiff Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 PM until time for the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
