John Wesley Badgett

John Wesley Badgett of Mount Airy, NC passed away on September 1, 2023 at the age of 78. He was born in Surry County to Samuel Wesley and Aileen Edwards Badgett. After graduating from North Surry High School, class of 1963, he attended Forsyth Tech. John proudly served his country for four years in the United States Air Force, which included a one-year tour in Vietnam. After fulfilling his military service commitment, he returned to the Mount Airy area and pursued a career in commercial heating and plumbing. John had his own business for several years before deciding to join the Surry County Schools Maintenance Department, where he retired in 2007. No matter where he served, John took pride in his work to make sure any job he tackled was done to the best of his ability and completed correctly.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years; Christine Badgett; son, John Curtis Badgett and wife, Jenny; two beloved granddaughters, Reagan and Renae Badgett; his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Bill Stewart; niece Gina S. Messere and husband, Mark; and great niece, Caleigh as well as several beloved cousins, his extended Stewart Family, and innumerable friends and colleagues. John was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Wesley (1986) and Aileen (2023).

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Moody’s Funeral Services in Mount Airy at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Inurnment at Oakdale Cemetery will follow immediately afterward with a Military Honor Guard.
