John William Hawks, Sr

Mr. John William "J.W." Hawks, Sr., 65, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015, at his home. Mr. Hawks was born December 23, 1949, in Surry County, to the late Paul Hawks, Sr. and Ruby Willey Hawks. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and retired owner and operator of his own HVAC business. He is survived by his wife, Donna Wilkins Hawks of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Christine and Casey Flippen of King and Sherry Hawks and her significant other, John Adams, of Elkin; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Tisha Hawks of Mount Airy; a son-in-law, Dale Bartley of Elkin; five grandchildren, Ashana Bartley and her fiancé, Travis Shores, Thomas Bartley and his significant other, Sarah Patterson, Summer Flippen, Tyler Flippen, and Leila Hawks; and a great-grandchild on the way, Aubrey Dale Bartley. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Woody Flippen, Elder Wayne Todd, and the Rev. Travis Sechrist officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all their love and care given to J.W. during his illness.
