John Marvin Hughes

      Mr. John Marvin Hughes, age 81 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023, at his home.  He was born in Patrick County on January 18, 1942, to the late William Leonard Hughes and Missouri Bertie Handy Hughes.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Goins Hughes; and two brothers, Garland, and Gilmer Hughes.  Marvin was a faithful member of Wayside Baptist Church and had retired from Stuart Flooring.  He loved fishing and going out to eat, especially Hardees for breakfast where he enjoyed playing Rook with all his friends.    

        Surviving is four daughters and sons-in-law, Rita Belcher (Leon), Brenda Hughes (Jamie), Vicky Bunn, and Connie Nichols (Trey); one son, John Wayne Hughes; four granddaughters, Heather Harris, Danielle Bunn; Trinity Nichols, and Presleigh Nichols; three grandsons, Zach Belcher, Kevin Adams, and Tyler Hughes; five great-grandchildren, Isaiah Harris, Hailey Harris, Shane Harris, Scarlet Stophel; and Juniper Stophel; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Elaine Hughes, Alvin and Jean Hughes, Donnie and Linda Hughes; one sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and James Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

        Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Wayside Baptist Church with Pastor Teddy Hiatt officiating.  Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
