Mr. John Thomas (Jack) Jones Jr., age 76, of Dobson, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2019, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born August 15, 1942 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late John Thomas Jones, Sr. and Lewise Asher Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Anne and Walter Vickhouse.
Mr. Jones was a veteran of the United States Army, a former Norfolk City Police Officer, a member of the Shriners Khedive Temple and Past Captain of the Harley Davidson Motor Patrol Unit. Jack created, owned and operated many businesses which included Diamond Security and Detective Agency, Jack’s 24 Hour Wrecker Service (still in existence today) and lastly he cleared the land and built from scratch Bear Creek Raceway, a family friendly competition go-kart/sprint car racing venue.
John was an active member of Little Richmond Baptist Church, pastored by J.V Lowe. The prayers, love and support of this church family have been a tremendous blessing to him and his wife through this difficult journey.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lorene (Rene) Jones; daughter and son-in-law, Karen Anne and Patrick Fritz; son and fiancée, John Jones, Jr and Megan Lewis; grandchildren, Erika (Curtis) Elkins, Dakoyta Rumsey, Gauge Jones and Logan (Laura) Fritz; great grandchildren, Zoey Rumsey, Izabella Elkins, Zachary Elkins and Layne Elkins.
There will be a family conducted memorial and graveside service with full military honors held at 6:00 PM Tuesday, April 23,
2019 at Little Richmond Baptist Church with Pastor J.V. Lowe and Pastor Otis Hurst officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Foothills Food Pantry, 233 Cooper Street, Dobson NC 27017, or The Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson NC 27017.
Jack’s testimony which he shared with everyone he could, I believe appropriate to be mentioned here. “I died when I bled out almost three years ago. I saw a bright light and the most beautiful place I cannot even describe. I had the most peaceful feeling and God spoke to me and said, “If you keep your faith and trust in Me I will be with you every step of the way. Do not worry.”
And during his 20 month battle with Leukemia he did not.
Jack said he’d heard other people’s stories of their death experiences and it wasn’t that he didn’t believe them but could not fully understand. He now knew they were true.
Jacks family cannot express the hole left in their lives; but praise God for taking him home and for the joy of knowing they will see him again.
