Mr. John Shelbon Hylton, age 85, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation. He was born on January 23, 1940 in Floyd County to the late Ferry and Elizabeth Andrews Hylton. Mr. Hylton was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will surely be missed by all who knew him. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Belva Deatherage Hylton; children, Michelle Goodson; Mark Hylton; grandchild, Ren Goodson; great-grandchild, Riley Goodson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Renee Hylton, Jerry and Karen Hylton, sister and brother-in-law, Lamara and David Haynes. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by a son, John Michael Hylton; sisters, Nora Jane Hylton, Wilma Hicks, Gay Hicks, Lorraine Coe, and Linda Bobbitt; brothers, Avery, Ralph, Jimmy, Jack, and Julian Hylton, Ferry Hue and Joe Wallace. There will be a memorial service held at a later date.
