Johnny Herbert Beck

Mr. Johnny Herbert Beck, 82, of 249 Welcome Baptist Church Road, Mount Airy, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 3, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Beck was born May 8, 1931, in Surry County, one of three sons born to the late John Ellis and Maggie Bowman Beck. Johnny retired as a truck driver from North Carolina Granite Corporation after 48 years of service and was a member of the Christian faith. Johnny will always be remembered for the love of his Lord, his wife, Lena, his son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Pam, and his pet companions, Freckles and his cats. His love of cars and trucks and going to cruise-ins and car shows were his sport and passion. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lena Jones Beck of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Pam Beck of Mount Airy; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Edna Beck of Bastrop, TX, LulaBelle Biggs of Claudville, VA, Arthur Jones, Brenda Sue Hensley, and Glenda Kaye and the Rev. Wayne Davis, all of Mount Airy, and Bonnie and Wayne Sapps of East Bend; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Beck was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernie Everett Beck and Orby Eugene Beck. The funeral service will be held Friday, July 5, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Wayne Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Country Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Country Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Lena Jones Beck, 249 Welcome Baptist Church Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
