Johnny Wilbur Gwyn

Mr. Johnny Wilbur Gwyn, age 89 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully Friday evening October 4, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 25, 1934, in Surry County to the late James Richard Gwyn and Lucy Frances O’Neal Gwyn. He was retired from Ararat Rock after 56 years of dedicated service and was a member of New Home Church of Christ. Johnny was a soft-hearted salt of the earth man. He would teach you lessons of life while being very patient. Johnny and Maxine would love to be outside working on the farm and especially mowing their yard. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gray and Kathy Gwyn, and Dennis Gwyn; grandchildren, Jennifer and Ben Grumbach, Kimberly and Justin Snow, Allison and Jac Creed, Chrissy and Nick Robson, and Jonathan and Shelly Gwyn; great grandchildren, Ellie Grumbach, Lydia Grumbach, Jonah Snow, Noelle Snow, Graylyn Creed, Laura Robson, and Clint Robson; two sisters and brother-in-law, Carolyn Gwyn Reed and Mike; and Brenda Gail Gwyn Anderson; his special caregivers, Mary Kay Snow, Jeff Tate, and Vanessa Jester; and several other family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gwyn was preceded in death on August 30, 2024, by his loving wife of 70 years, Maxine Frankie Simpson Gwyn; three sisters, Ruby Kathleen Gwyn Tilley, Gladys Griffin Gwyn Combs, and Stacy Marie Gwyn Lawrence; and by two brothers, Davis Junior Gwyn, and James Woodrow “Woody” Gwyn. Graveside services will be held at Skyline Memory Gardens on Tuesday October 8, 2024, at 3:00pm with Brother Tim Smith officiating. The Gwyn family would like to give a special thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all of the love and support shown to Johnny and the family.
