Mr. Johnny Ray Wimbish, 71, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday morning, February 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Mr. Wimbish was born April 9, 1954, in Henry County, VA, the youngest of four children born to the late Raymond Holley and Janie Sue Vaughn Wimbish. Johnny grew up in Martinsville, VA, and was a proud graduate of Laurel Park High School. During those early years, he formed lifelong friendships and learned the value of hard work that would guide him throughout his life. As a young man, he worked alongside his father in the family business, Wimbish Construction, a career that shaped his strong work ethic and steady character. He later joined Royal Homes in High Point, where he faithfully dedicated many years of service before retiring three years ago. Johnny was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Vickie Lynn Newman Wimbish of the home; a daughter, Nicole Wimbish of the home; a son, James Michael Wimbish of Mount Airy; a grandson, Nikolai Wimbish of Mount Airy; three sisters, Janet Solomon of Greensboro, Sandra Payne of Chatham, VA, and Carolyn Clem of Reidsville; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends who will remember him for his kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering loyalty. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wimbish was preceded in death by his special canine companion, Angel, who held a treasured place in his heart. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 6, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randy Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM.
