Mr. Joseph LeRoy “Jody” Curtis, Jr., age 67 of Butner, formally from Mount Airy, entered into eternal rest on June 10, 2026, at the Murdock Center Infirmary in Butner, North Carolina. Mr. Curtis was born on January 25, 1959, in Surry County to the late Joseph LeRoy Curtis, Sr. and Janie O’Neal Johnson. Jody was kind and loving person who was liked by everyone he met. His life will have a lasting impact on each person he came into contact with during his life. Mr. Curtis will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving is his sister, Cynthia “Cindy” Shinault; niece and her spouse, Meredith Shinault Dickens and Chase; nephew, Matthew Shinault; great nephew, Reagan Adam Dickens; stepmother, Zelda Curtis; along with many loving cousins and extended family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Curtis was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jefferson Lewis O’Neal and Edna O’Neal Clifton; paternal grandparents, Kenneth K. and Mary Spane Jones; stepfather, James Howard Johnson. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy with Reverend Josh Sechrist officiating. No formal visitation will be held. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Royal Cottage for the loving care provided to Jody for the last five decades. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the physicians and nurses of the Murdock Center Infirmary for the compassionate care they provided to Jody during his illness.
