Mr. Joseph Curtis "Joe" Gilley age 57, of Dobson passed from this world into the loving arms of his heavenly father on Wednesday September 17, 2014 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Mr. Gilley was born in Surry County on April 22, 1957, the son of Joseph Curry "J.C." and Eunice Butcher Gilley. Mr. Gilley was an avid car show and cruise in fan, and always enjoyed his blue grass and gospel music. He began his professional career in banking with Wachovia Bank where he worked for 23 years. He continued his career with Morgan Stanley for 7 years, and was employed with Surrey Bank and Trust in Mount Airy for 9 years. Mr. Gilley was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Janet Money Gilley of the home; one daughter, Julie Gilley of the home, and her fiancé', Cody Myers; his parents, J.C. and Eunice Butcher Gilley of Dobson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, William and Becky Money of Dobson, Terry and Wanda Cook of Dobson, Brenda Money of Dobson, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, four nieces, and three nephews. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday September 21, 2014 at the New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Trent Lyons, Dr. James Dilley, Rev. Alton Bledsoe, and Rev. Dennis Bledsoe officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Gilley family will receive friends at New Hope Baptist Church on Saturday night from 6:00 until 8:30 PM. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407-2145 or to the National Kidney Foundation 2917 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208.The Gilley family would like to express thanks to Dr. James Dilley, and the medical staff on the 9th floor North, ICU, ICC, and 8th floor Renal at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. In reflection of Joe's life, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith" II Timothy 4:7. Moody Funeral Service in Mount Airy is serving the Gilley family.
