Joseph "Larry" Gordon

Mr. Joseph "Larry" Gordon, 67, of Mount Airy, husband of Janice Goins Gordon, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born February 25, 1947, in Surry County, to the late Jesse "Bud" and Bessie Young Gordon. He retired from Cross Creek Apparel and was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Janice Goins Gordon of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Keisha G. Proctor and Jared of Greensboro; an expectant grandchild; a sister, Charldeen Hawks of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, George "Cotton" Gordon and Teressa of Mount Airy; three half-brothers and their wives, Jerry Slate and Melissa of Mount Airy, Sandy Slate of Fancy Gap, VA, and Teddy Slate and Barbara of Mount Airy; and "special" canine friends, Winc and Precious. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Owens, Dorothy Gilley, and Catherine Gordon; and a half-sister, Trudy Slate. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, on Oak Ridge Rd, Cana, VA, where he will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Odell White and the Rev. David Sechrist. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
