Joseph Lloyd Soyars

Mr. Joseph Lloyd Soyars, age 97 of Deland, Florida, and formerly of Patrick County, passed away Thursday, November 27, 2014 in Florida. He was born in Patrick County on March 21, 1917 to the late Joseph Cornelius and Maude Cochran Soyars Hopkins. In addition to his parents, Mr. Soyars was preceded in death by his wife, Dovalee Ross Soyars; one step-sister, Lora H. Griffith; and two step brothers, Lloyd Hopkins and Hoy Hopkins.
Mr. Soyars is survived by one daughter, Rita Jo Prescott of Orlando, Florida; three sons, Bob Soyars and wife, Kay of Johnson City, Tennessee, David Soyars and wife, Leda, of Orange City, Florida and Steve Soyars of Deland, Florida; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two half brothers, George Hopkins of Stuart and Clint Hopkins of Roanoke; and four half sisters, Dorothy Tatum, Anita Cox, Mae Pace and Marie Edwards, all of Stuart.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Gerald Melton and Rev. Dr. Clint Hopkins officiating, with Military Rites conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Burial will follow in the Sycamore Baptist Church Cemetery.
