Josie Marie (Boyd) Epperson

Mrs. Josie Marie Boyd Epperson, age 97 of Ararat, Virginia passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina.  Mrs. Epperson was born April 14, 1926, in Patrick County to the late Harvey and Sarah Gwynn Boyd.  Josie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.  Surviving is her daughter and son-in-law, Carla Epperson Shimko and husband Richard; two sons and daughter-in-law, Gregory Epperson, Brent Epperson and wife Julie; ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy Boyd Johnson and husband Jimmy, Margaret Boyd and husband David Brown; a sister-in-law, Jewel Boyd; two brothers and sister -in-law, Clark Boyd, Donald Boyd and wife Christa; along with many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Epperson was preceded in death by her husband, Roy N. Epperson; a stepson Harold Epperson and his infant daughter, Jennifer; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Louette Boyd Bolen and James, Annie Boyd Johnson and Clyde; a sister-in-law, Shirley Boyd; and four brothers and sister-in-law, Jesse Boyd and wife Frances, Monroe Boyd, Roger Boyd, and Clifford Boyd.  A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Unity Church in Ararat, Virginia with Reverend Buford Jessup officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  The body will lie-in-state on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, thirty minutes prior to the service at the church.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
