Mrs. Juanita G. Hawks, age 82, of Commonwealth Senior Living, Hillsville, Virgina, passed away on March 11, 2024. She was born in Carroll County, Virginia, on July 14, 1941, to the late Barney Garland Hawks and Stella Akers Hawks. Mrs. Hawks married her fourth-grade sweetheart, Jackie R. Hawks and was married for 52 years prior to his death. Mrs. Hawks was a beloved teacher at Carroll County Public Schools for 30 years after graduating from Radford University. She enjoyed gardening and any activity involving the outdoors. Mrs. Hawks especially enjoyed traveling all over the USA with her husband. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Janie and James Dutton of Cary, North Carolina and one son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Teresa Hawks of Fancy Gap, Virginia. Mrs. Hawks dearly loved her grandchildren and spouses: Dr. Walter Dutton and Dr. Diane Dutton of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jennifer and Trevor Munoz of Cary, North Carolina, Isaac Hawks, and Lucas Hawks, both of Fancy Gap, Virginia.  She delighted in her only great-grandchild, Leo Munoz of Cary, North Carolina. She is also survived by a brother, Haywood Hawks, and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Louella and Melvin McMillian and Linda and Rector Cagle, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother: Vestal Hawks and Faye Hawks Tate. A private funeral followed by interment at Skyline Memorial Gardens is planned. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Medi Hospice and Commonwealth Senior Living for the wonderful care shown to Mrs. Hawks in her last weeks.
