Judith Ann Bates

Miss Judith Ann Bates, age 83, of Mount Airy, passed away early Saturday morning, May 31, 2025, at Surry Community Health Center by Harborview. Miss Bates was born, August 5, 1941, in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, to the late Griffith Anthony Bates and Esther Viola Morris Bates. Throughout her life, she was strong in her faith and was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. She had worked throughout her life as a registered nurse, where she eventually retired from. Surviving Miss Bates is a sister and brother-in-law, Susan Westervelt and Michael; nephews and nieces, Richard O’Donnell, Jr. and Johanna, and their child (Josh), Griffith O’Donnell and Vicky, their children (Lindsay, Griffith, Jr., and Angelina), Michael A. Westervelt, Jr., children (Hannah, Storm, and Amanda), Monica Rowe and Philip Jr., their children (Morgan, Riley, Callen); cousins, Linda Cothes, Karen Palm, Adrieanne Schoonover, and Les, her sister (Zena Conner);; special friends, Juanita Deloach, Mabel Ebright and her family, Linda Galasetti Simmons, Mary Ann Rhodes, Barbara Caudill, Noreen Walls and Bob, Maria Louisa Agular and family. In addition to her parents, Miss Bates was preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law, Jean Marie O’Donnell and Richard O’Donnell, Sr.; special friends, Phillip Deloach, Marie Deans. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Holy Angels catholic Church in Mount Airy with Father Peter Nouck officiating. Family will receive friends on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 9:00 AM until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the new Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church Building Fund 1208 N. Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
