Judy Johnson Cox, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025, at the age of 76 after a long and courageous journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Though the illness gradually quieted her memories, it never dimmed her joy or kindness.
Born on July 10, 1949, in Millers Creek, Judy grew up with a deep love for family and the simple joys that make life meaningful. At home, she expressed her love through acts of care and nurture. She took in more stray cats than can be remembered, grew gorgeous flowers and houseplants, and kept everyone well fed with her homemade meals. She always put her daughters first. From helping with homework, to chauffeuring to piano lessons, to cheering at track meets, she was a steady and constant presence.
She dedicated many years to her church, where she taught Sunday school, helped with Vacation Bible School and Christmas programs, and made countless dishes and treats for potluck dinners.
Though quiet in a crowd, she had a great sense of humor at home. She was known to pull the occasional prank and do silly dances. When Alzheimer's took her inhibitions, she occasionally shared dances with the other residents of Twelve Oaks Assisted Living.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur “Buck” Johnson and Roxie Stanley Johnson. She is survived by her loving husband, Steve Cox; her daughters, Mindy Marion (Scott) of King, and Jennifer Cox of Greensboro; cherished grandchildren, Jacob and Cassidy Marion; sister Janet McPeak (Benny) of Pilot Mountain, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and medical staff who supported her with dignity and compassion in her final years.
A funeral will be held at 2pm on December 3, 2025 at Double Creek Church of Christ, with visitation beginning at 1pm, with minister John Elmore officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, PO Box 325, Dobson NC 27017. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the Cox family.
