Karen Ann Campbell, 51, of 334 Taylor Street, Mount Airy, NC, passed away Wednesday afternoon, February 19, 2014, at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. Karen was born June 7, 1962, in Charleston, WV, the daughter of Janet Campbell Thrift and the late James Robert Campbell, Sr. Karen graduated from Menchville High School in Newport News, VA, and Virginia Tech with a degree in computer programming. She worked as a computer programmer at Renfro Corporation and was a member of the Christian faith. She is survived by her husband, James R. Jones of the home; her mother and stepfather, Janet Campbell Thrift and Herbert Thrift of Newport News, VA; a sister, Vicki Campbell Painter of Dothan, AL; a brother and sister-in-law, James Robert Campbell, II and Cynthia Campbell of New Bern, NC; her father-in-law and his wife, Jerry and Doris Jones of Max Meadows, VA; her mother-in-law, Sandra Jones of Parrot, VA; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Sonja Schlossnagle of Giles County, VA, Steven Jones of Pulaski County, VA, and Stephanie Fleshman of Pulaski County, VA; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Rachel Meadows. A service to celebrate Karen's life will be held Sunday, February 23, 2014, at 4:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Duke Cancer Institute, Office of Development, 710 West Main Street, Suite 200, Durham, NC 27701.
