Mrs. Katherine Morrison Mize, age 99 of Stuart, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Stuart Community Hospital. She was born in Patrick County, where she lived her entire life, on February 22, 1927, to the late John Albert Scott, Sr., and Cora Chaney Scott. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mize was preceded in death by her first husband, King Alfred Morrison, they were married 54 years; her second husband, Russell Mize, they were married 9 years; stepson, Linwood Mize; stepdaughter, Louise M. Lovely; a sister, Nannie S. Boyd; four brothers, John Albert Scott, Jr., Curtis Scott, Walter Scott, and Vernon Scott; and a son-in-law, Wayne “Peanut” Plaster. Katherine enjoyed bus trips and traveling. She was a longtime member of the Fairystone Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She and her first husband, King, enjoyed working in the garden, canning, bluegrass music, and dancing. She loved her Christian Faith Baptist Church in Ferrum family. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith and her devotion to her family, and will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Mize is survived by two daughters, Sylvia M. Plaster and Donna M. Thomas (Sparks, Jr.); three grandsons, Dwayne Adams (Brandy), Darren Thomas (Rachel) and Dustin Thomas (Jessica); four great-grandchildren, Michael Adams (Casey), Kimber Thomas, Khloe Thomas, and Kaci Thomas; four great-great-grandchildren, Saige Adams, Devin Adams, Landin Adams and Haydin Adams; two sisters, Hazel Hopkins (Rick) and Pam Scott; two sisters-in-law, Frances Scott and Geraldine Scott; several nieces and nephews; special niece, Rita McCullom; and special friends, Cookie Lawson and Hazel Massey.
