Mrs. Kathy Tate Cates, age 73 of Rural Hall, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Novant Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Cates was born on January 7, 1953, in Surry County to the late William Clinton and Joann Tucker Tate. Kathy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving is her son, Ronald Grey Cates, II; two grandchildren, Caleb Tate Burrow, Abby Gregory; honorary son and daughter, Kase Gregory and Lesia Gregory; a sister, Pamela Tate Burrow; a brother, Dennis Charles Tate; three nieces, Melissa Barbour (David), April Tate, Wendy Cates; two nephews, Matthew Burrow, James Wood; and two great nephews, Andrew O’Neal and Charlie Cummings. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cates was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Grey Cates, a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Tate; a brother-in-law, Danny Leon Burrow; and a niece Brandy Renee Tate. A funeral will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy will Reverend David Tucker, Reverend Wayne Coleman, and Reverend Tom Delph officiating. Interment will follow in the Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, North Carolina. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Moody Funeral Home from 12:00 PM until the time of the service. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
