Mrs. Simpson was born May 31, 1949, in Surry County, one of three daughters born to the late Ralph Curtis and Margaret Carson Calloway Hardy. Kay grew up in the Piney Grove community of Mount Airy and was a graduate of Surry Central High School. Following her marriage to Russell Gene Simpson in 1968, the couple made their home in Winston-Salem, where Kay served as store manager at World Bazaar for several years. Kay cherished her family above all else and found great joy in spending time with those she loved. She enjoyed relaxing on her porch with a cup of coffee and a good book, had a special fondness for sweets, and looked forward to family trips to the beach, where many treasured memories were made. She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Russell Gene Simpson of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Josh Allen of Pfafftown; a son, David Simpson of the home; three grandchildren, Kayleigh Allen and Owen Allen, both of Pfafftown, and Liam Allen of Myrtle Beach, SC; a sister, Brenda Hardy Davis of Mount Airy; a brother-in-law, Dennis Miller of Thurmond; and three nieces, Beth Gordon of Mount Airy, and Laura Hazelwood and her husband, Josh, and Olivia Bodenhamer and her husband, Austin, all of Dobson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Ann “Patti” Hardy Miller. A private graveside memorial service will be held at Piney Grove Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM in the fellowship hall of Piney Grove Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1022, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or the Kate B.
