Kenneth Ray Johnson

Mr. Kenneth Ray Johnson, age 79, of Pilot Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on the evening of January 5, 2024.  He was born on December 17, 1944 in Surry County to the late James “Jim” Thomas and Ima Mae Bingman Johnson.  Mr. Johnson graduated from East Surry High School in 1964 and retired from Mt. Airy Oil Company. He was also a member of Indian Grove Baptist Church and went many years without missing a Sunday. He was also a messenger to the Surry Baptist Association.  He had seven wonderful cats that he loved dearly.  Left to cherish his memory is his wife of almost 52 years, Virginia Thompson Johnson; brothers-in-law, James Thompson (Karon), Jerry Thompson (Jan), Henry Thompson (Ann); nieces and nephews, Nadine Shelton (David), Bradley Johnson, Kaitlin Nichols (Jacob), Zachary Thompson (Michelle) Justin Marshall, Jessica Holder (Lee), Stephanie Lawson (Jimmy), several great-nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his brother James Clayton Johnson.  A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Indian Grove Family Cemetery with service conducted by Rev. Frank Harmon.  The Family will be receiving friends in the fellowship hall of the church following the service. For those wishing to pay their respects you may stop by Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy on Wednesday between the hours of 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM.  In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in honor of Mr. Johnson to Indian Grove Baptist Church.
