Kenneth “Kenny” David Davis, Sr.

August 9, 1957 – September 13, 2026

Our Dr. Pepper drinking, diesel mechanic 69 year old cowboy took his last ride into the sunset on Sunday night, September 13, 2026. Kenny passed away peacefully with his boots near the door. He has won the victory over his tired and worn-out body. Kenny was a true cowboy at heart and loved all things western. You would rarely catch him without his well-worn cowboy hat and scuffed-up boots. Kenny loved horses and dreamed of someday owning a ranch. In his typical cowboy walk, we are certain Kenny strutted his way through heaven’s gates Sunday night to meet his Lord and Savior! He certainly knew how to enter a room! He is home at last reunited with his only son, his parents, a brother, a nephew and many more. What a glorious reunion it must have been! Kenny had the kindest soul always complementing those around him and never left without telling you how much he loved you. Kenny was the life of the party and certainly the center of attention always with a big smile on his face! There’s a great chance he’s hitting on all the pretty women in heaven! Kenny joyously lived his life out loud and you would most definitely remember him if you ever met him!

Kenny, like his brother Calvin was a self- taught heavy equipment diesel mechanic often referred to as “the best in the business” by many in the heavy equipment industry. He began working at the age of 15 and continued in the business as long as his health permitted.

Kenny was born in Surry County to the late Grover and Peggy (Ratcliff ) Davis. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his beloved son, Kenneth “JR” David Davis, Jr., a brother Calvin Davis, a nephew Anthony Vaughn, Sr. He is survived by his daughter-in-law Whitney Anthony of Mount Airy, NC, two grandsons Daven Gregory Davis and Brady Alexander Davis both of Mount Airy, NC, two sisters Sandra Davis and Trena (David) Schumaker both of Mount Airy, NC, three brothers, Ricky (Ginger) Davis of West Virginia, Michael (Terri) Davis, Sr. of Mount Airy, NC and Jeff Davis of King, NC, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews and his best friend Darren McCraw of Morganton, NC.

In all of life’s situations Kenny would always say, “it will be alright”! Well Kenny, we know you are alright! Your beautiful soul has left a trail of beautiful memories! Until we meet again, ride the trails of heaven and enjoy those beautiful heavenly sunsets! Save a place for us, we’ll be there soon! We will love and miss you forever.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of McAlpine Adult Care Center in Morganton, NC for the many years of care provided for Kenny, the staff at UNC Health Blue Ridge Hospital in Morganton, NC for the compassionate, excellent care provided for Kenny in his last days. Also, a very special thank you to Kenny’s social worker, Jenna Gray from Surry County, NC for the many years of dedication, support, visits and love shown to him and all the dollars for Dr. Peppers.

There will be no formal visitation at this time but there will be a celebration of life for Kenny at a later day. Moody Funeral Home Services of Mount Airy, NC is servicing the family.
