Kenny Dean Jones

Mr. Kenny Dean Jones, 84 of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday July 10, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born April 12, 1941, in Surry County to the late James Burton “Buck” Jones and Mary Lou Payne Jones. He retired from Jones Cash Wholesale as a salesman and proudly served our country in the US Army. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rita Ann Golding Jones of the home; sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Gray Draughn; a very special friend, Mark Surratt, who he adopted as a “wannabe” son and for helping look after him during his illness; several nieces and nephews; special friends who helped make him comfortable and happy, Charles York, Becky Phillips, Lynn Cook, Marty Brannock, Sheryl Dickerson, Stan Golding, and Rhonda Bottoms; and many other family friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his brother, Dorsey Jones; and his beloved cat of 19 years, Sam. Graveside services in the Zion Methodist Church Cemetery on Tuesday July 15, 2025, with Pastor Richard Loman and with full Military Rites provided by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Pilot Mountain Post 9436 and Mount Airy Post 2019. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 9:30 – 10:30am on Tuesday July 15, 2025. The Jones family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care especially April Badgett, Lisa Phipps, and Beth Freeman for all of the love and care given to Kenny and the family.
