Kermit Lonzo Payne

Mr. Kermit Lonzo Payne, Sr., 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Payne was born August 2, 1931, in Surry County, to the late Ambrose Alonzo and Nellie Moser Payne. He is survived by daughters and a son-in-law, Nelda Caudle and Kevin, Bonnie Simmons, and Joann Payne, all of Mount Airy, Darlene Payne Los Angeles, CA, and Cathy Payne of the home; sons, Kermit Payne, Jr. of Mount Airy and Ronnie Payne of Los Angeles, CA; seven grandchildren; Christy, AJ, Melinda, Christina, Tony, Cristina, and Joe; six great-grandchildren, Destiney, Hailey, Anthony, Andrew, Ariana, and Elizabeth. In addition to his parents, Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Georgia Willard Payne; a beloved son, Michael Payne; sisters, Ruth Scott, Gladys Klimonvitz, Virginia Martin, and Betty Mills; and brothers, Howard and Elmer Payne. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Tommy Slate officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 until the time for the service at the funeral home.
