Kester Thomas Jarrell

Mr. Kester Thomas Jarrell, 86, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday morning, June 12, 2015, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Jarrell was born June 8, 1929, in Surry County, one of four children born to the late Fred R. and Cena Sutphin Jarrell. Kester served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict era. He co-owned and operated Jarrell's General Store for many, many years. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rachael Snow Jarrell of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Will and Katarina Jarrell of Mount Airy; two grandsons, Tanner Jarrell and Ben Jarrell, both of Mount Airy; two sisters, Mildred Jarrell and Margaret Jarrell Smith, both of Mount Airy; and a brother and sister-in-law, Norris G. and Faye Jarrell of Mount Airy. The funeral service will be held Monday, June 15, 2015, at 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Alex L. Martin and the Rev. Justin Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Monday from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at the church. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by Dr. David Dixon and the Skilled Nursing Staff at Northern Hospital of Surry County. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
