Mr. Larry Junior Conner, 77, of Cana, Virginia, died peacefully on Monday morning, August 17, 2026, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, surrounded by the love of his family.
Larry was born September 16, 1948, in Surry County, one of five children born to the late Junior Howard and Lela Jane Easter Conner. He grew up in Mount Airy.
A carpenter by trade and a builder at heart, Larry spent much of his life creating, fixing, improving, and serving others. Alongside his brother-in-law, he co-owned and operated R&L Construction Company, traveling throughout the country constructing the interior setups for newly opened Lowe’s Home Improvement stores. Wherever the work took him, Larry carried the same determination, integrity, and strong work ethic that became the cornerstone of his life.
Even after retirement, he remained busy with work. He loved farming, working with his hands, making trades, and finding a good deal. Blessed with an entrepreneurial spirit and a natural gift for negotiation, he was always working on a project, helping a neighbor, or striking up a conversation with someone he’d just met.
Larry will be remembered for his playful sense of humor, quick wit, and love of practical jokes. He enjoyed laughter, friendly banter, and making memories with those around him. Yet beneath that humor was a deeply compassionate heart. He was dependable, generous, and fiercely loyal to his family and friends.
More than anything, Larry was a devoted family man. His greatest joy came from the people he loved. His children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family knew him as a source of strength, wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. He was the kind of man you could always count on.
Larry was also a devoted follower of Christ and a faithful member of the Philadelphia Church of God. His faith guided his life and shaped the kindness, humility, and grace with which he lived.
Of all the blessings in Larry’s life, none was greater than the love he shared with his wife of 59 years, Wanda P. Conner. Their story began when they were young and grew into a remarkable union built on faith, devotion, perseverance, and unconditional love. Through every season of life, they stood side by side, creating a home centered on God and family. Their marriage was a beautiful example of enduring love and faithfully reflected the truth that “true love never dies.”
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Wanda P. Conner; two daughters, Lisa Conner and Leslie Conner Reeves and her husband, Dr. Travis L. Reeves; two granddaughters, Laken Robertson and Weatherly Reeves and her fiancé, Jacob Hanks; a grandson, Ridge Reeves; a sister, Gladys Conner Norman; and several special nieces and nephews who lovingly considered him a second father.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Conner York; and two brothers, Clyde Wayne Conner and Howard Willis Conner.
A service of worship and celebration of Larry’s life will be held Friday, August 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Minister David Miller officiating. A private interment will follow at the Indian Grove Family Cemetery. No formal visitation will be held.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for their compassionate care and support.
