Larry Dean Leftwich

Mr. Larry Dean Leftwich, 64, of 115 Freshwater Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 30, 2014, at his home. Mr. Leftwich was born October 6, 1949, in Surry County, the son of the late Leroy and Dorothy Smith Leftwich. Affectionately known as "Peewee" to his family and friends, he worked as the transportation dispatcher at Pike Electric Inc., where he had been employed for 41 years, and was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church. "Peewee" was also a member of Renfro Masonic Lodge #691 AF and AM. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Peggy Anderson Leftwich of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Brent Casstevens of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Mandi Leftwich of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Zac Casstevens, Kaleb Leftwich, Kylee Leftwich, and Kennedi Leftwich, all of Mount Airy; an adopted grandson, Jared Hiatt of Mount Airy; a sister, Anita Leftwich Vogler of Mount Airy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary "Bo" and Betty Leftwich and Jeff and Misty Leftwich, all of Mount Airy; and his canine companion, Sassy Sue. In addition to his parents, Mr. Leftwich was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Leftwich Freeman. The funeral service will be held Friday, October 3, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Little Mountain Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Watson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
