Mr. Larry Craig Patterson age 88 of Mount Airy, North Carolina, husband of Mrs. Susan Goard Patterson, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born April 8, 1937, in Surry County, North Carolina, to the late Oscar Wilson and Lorraine Midkiff Patterson. Mr. Patterson proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he developed lifelong friendships and a deep sense of honor and commitment that shaped the way he lived. He often spoke with pride about his time in the Navy and carried those values of service and integrity throughout his life. Following his military service, he built a long and fulfilling career with Centel Telephone Company, where he was respected for his reliability, problem-solving skills, and dedication to helping others. His colleagues remember him as someone who could always be counted on and who took great pride in doing his job well. He was a devoted member of Bannertown Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and served faithfully on various committees. He also shared his love of music by singing in the Mountain Valley Hospice Choir, bringing joy and comfort to many through his voice and gentle spirit. Mr. Patterson is survived by his wife, Susan Goard Patterson of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Roger Keck; sisters-in-law, Betty Patterson and Faye Goard; a brother-in-law, Jack Goad; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean Goard Marion and Jasper Marion. He is also survived by nieces and their spouses, Misty (Chris) Mauldin, Bethany (Doug) Shepherd, Kim Patterson (Kevin) Patterson, and Terri Beverly,  niece-in-law, Cindy Beverly; nephews and their spouses, Todd (Kim) Beverly; Kevin (Becky) Beverly, Mike (Laura) Marion, Stan (Julie) Marion, Dr. Brad (Traci) Goad and John Good; along with special friends, Paul "Bones" and Peggy Hull. In addition to his parents, Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by a son, James Craig "Jimmy" Patterson; a brother, Dennis Patterson, and a nephew, Gray Beverly. A celebration of life service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Pastor Mickey Cogdill. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bannertown Baptist Church, 1854 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27041.
