Larry Sumner

Mr. Larry Sumner, age 68, of Mount Airy, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday evening, October 23, 2024. He was born in Surry County on July 28, 1956, to the late Charles Sumner and Dora Anderson Sumner. Mr. Sumner was a lifelong self-employed construction worker working alongside his father Charles and his best friend, Roger Hill. He was a firm believer in Christ who was a deacon and member of New Venture Baptist Church for many years. He loved to travel and take camping trips with his family and friends. He was a caring and loving Daddy, Poppy, husband, partner, and friend, that will be deeply missed. Surviving Mr. Sumner is his partner, Judy Willard; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Laws and Kris; his adored granddaughter, Covia Laws; step-granddaughter, Amber Tate; step great grandchildren, Willow Holmes, Serenity Holmes; brother and sister-in-law, Danny Sumner and April; sister-in-law, Samantha Hicks; several nieces and nephews; his best friend, Roger Hill; and his beloved companions, Patches and Little Bit. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Belinda Hicks Sumner, brother-in-law, David Hicks. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 28, 2024, at New Venture Baptist Church at 2 PM, with Pastor Larry Thomas and Roger Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the New Venture Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 28, 2024, at New Venture Baptist Church from 12:30 PM until time of the service.
