Laura "Peggy" Stanhope Poore O'Neal

Mrs. Laura Peggy Stanhope Poore O’Neal, age 84 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully Sunday morning January 7, 2024, at Northern Regional Hospital.  She was born February 3, 1939, in Henry County to the late Jesse and Alma Hyler Poore.  Mrs. O’Neal was a loving mother, nanny, and friend who will be dearly missed.  She retired from hotel management after many years of service.  Left to cherish her memory are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila O’Neal Cochran and husband Bruce and Teresa O’Neal Durham and husband Dennis; a son and daughter-in-law, James Robert O’Neal and wife Sandra; six grandchildren, TJ and Amanda Bledsoe, Susan O’Neal, Heather and Noah Hunter, Lyndsey and Nathan Nichols, Erin and Jake Hiatt and Taylor and Josh Poindexter; and by several great grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. O’Neal was preceded in death by her husband, James Gray O’Neal; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra O’Neal Beck and husband Roy; a son, James Gray O’Neal; and a grandson, Tony Branch.  A service of worship and celebration of Peggy’s life will be held on Saturday January 13, 2024, at 2:00pm in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Rev. Bill Watson and Pastor Jerry Pardue officiating.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 – 2:00pm at the funeral home.  The O’Neal family will have a private burial.  A special thank you to Northern Regional Hospital, Mount Airy Fire Department and Surry County Emergency Services for all of the kind care and compassion shown to Mrs. O’Neal.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
