Mrs. Leona Taylor Asbury, 82, of 219 Sexton Road, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday night, June 3, 2012, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Asbury was born May 30, 1930, in Mercer County, WV, one of ten children born to the late Allen Maywood and Valmer Helen Hedrick Taylor. Leona served our country in the United States Air Force under the direction of General MacArthur in the Pacific Theater during World War II. She was a homemaker and a member of Beulah United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Roy Albert Asbury of the home; a son, Thomas Michael Asbury of Shawnee, OK; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Magdalene White of Princeton, WV, Evon Elaine Price of Mount Airy, and Sandra Kay and Daniel Coutermash of Swan Lake, NY; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Asbury was preceded in death by a sister, Ada Gordon; and five brothers, Bill Taylor, Vernie Taylor, Allen Taylor, Dallas Taylor, and Delbert Taylor. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dennis W. "Bud" Cameron officiating. Entombment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beulah United Methodist Church, c/o Goldie Sparger, 5012 West Pine Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
