Mr. Lewis Ray Collins, 80, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, November 25, 2014, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Collins was born December 8, 1933, in Surry County, to the late Aldie and Annie Tickle Collins. He retired as an inspector from Mount Airy Furniture Company and was a member of Union Hill Friends Meeting. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Traci Collins of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Blake Collins of Mount Airy, and Tyler Collins and Kelly Collins, both of Winston-Salem; two great-grandchildren, Karleigh Collins of Mount Airy and Trenton Collins of Winston-Salem; a sister and brother-in-law, Lucy and Frank Harris of Mount Airy; and a nephew, Craig Harris of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Collins was preceded in death by a special aunt, Ocie Newman; a special uncle, Thurman Tickle; and a special cousin, Betty Marshall. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 28, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Union Hill Friends Meeting, with the Rev. Fonda Younger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Union Hill Friends Meeting. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Hill Friends Meeting Building Fund, c/o Judy Clifton, 153 Forest Knoll Drive, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
