Linda Payne Smith

Mrs. Linda Payne Smith, age 76, of Ararat, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024 at her home. She was born on October 6, 1948 in Patrick County to the late James Monroe and Claudia Marie Sutphin Payne. Mrs. Smith was a retired hairdresser, a job which she held for over 30 years. She was a loving mother, and grandmother who will be missed by all who knew her. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sharon Lynn Smith, Xena Lynn Gammons; sons, Lee Stephen “Dude” Smith (Shelly), James Harden “Pete” Smith (Capria); grandchildren, EddaLeigh Harden Smith, Sheridan Smith, Calvin Smith, Madi Boswell (Nick); sisters, Ruby Colvin (Rick), Wanda Sue Dellenback (Edward), Judy Ann Keith; brothers, Alvin Payne (Ruth), Dempsey Payne (Mary Alice), Kenneth Payne (June), Calvin Payne (Vickie); fur babies, Sophia and Milkshake, and many nephews, nieces, and friends. In addition to her parents Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Stephen Smith Sr., sister, Brenda Ann “Kaye” Payne Sidden. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with service conducted by Rev. Joe Smith. Burial will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time for the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Mrs. Smith to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Dr Suite 101, Mt Airy, NC 27030.
