Mrs. Lockie Dorilla Lawson Smith, age 87 of Mt. Airy, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015. Mrs. Smith was born in Surry County on February 29, 1928 to John Lester and Mary Etta Brooks Lawson. Mrs. Smith worked for forty years at Spencer's Inc. and after retirement continued to work at Utt's Campground. She was a dedicated and strong mother, grandmother who will be dearly missed by all her family and many friends. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Carroll Hall; Etta and J. R. Arrington and Donna and Greg Stoltz; sons and daughters-in-law, Alvin and Lou Smith and John and Helen Smith; a step daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Glenn Dowse; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ruth Turner; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony and Mary Lou Lawson, Polly Lawson, Ruby Mae Hodges and several nieces and nephews as well as a very special nephew, Wayne Lawson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, James Smith and brothers, David Ray Lawson, Cleo Lawson and Fred Lawson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Arlis Thomas. Burial will follow in Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
