Mrs. Lois Claire Mader Bennett Phelps, age 77, of Dobson, NC died on Monday morning January 6, 2015 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born in Hoboken, NJ on November 18, 1937 to the late Harry and Adeline Rohde Mader. Most of her life was in Rockland County New York. A graduate of Clarkstown High School in New City, she went on to New York City and Studied Nursing at the Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing. After receiving her R.N. she became a staff member at MSH in the operating room, which became the joy of her professional life. She became a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) in the sixties and soon took the exam which earned her a CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room). In the seventies, she went to St. Thomas Aquinas and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. She Proudly had a business cards made with R.N. CNOR and BS. Lois loved to read and knit, making herself an evening gown. Her social activities were centered around her family and Eastern Star. She served 3 terms as the Worthy Matron of Rockland County Chapter #371. She was appointed as Grand Representative of New York Mississippi. Her family was involved with the Rainbow Girls and Pancake Breakfast, was a Saturday Ritual. She was an active member of Copeland Ruritan and Pilot Mtn. Bridge Club. Lois is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Lynda and Christopher Zibbideo of Meriden CT.; and two step-sons and daughter-in-law Lee Phelps and Mary Smith Phelps, David Phelps; sister and her brother-in-law Joyce and Ed Gascoyne of Florida and Michigan; and Thunder, her furry grand cat. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Donald Harris Bennett in 1994; her second husband George Edward Phelps in 2014. A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday January 12, 2015 in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson. With a reception to follow in the visitation room of Moody-Davis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity in memory of Lois.
