Mrs. Lolean Wilson Simmons Adams, affectionately known as Mama Lolean, 99, of 513 Orchard Street, Mount Airy, took her final journey on Monday night, January 6, 2014. Mrs. Adams was born November 5, 1914, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Zeb Dee and Daisy East Wilson. Lolean worked as a certified nursing assistant for many years and was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Alice Mae Simmons Mills of Mount Airy; her grandchildren, Lynn Simmons Manchester and her husband, Randy, of Cana, VA, Vickie Mills Reeves and her husband, Ronnie, of Mount Airy, and Sharon Mills, widow of her grandson, Larry Ray Mills, of Mount Airy; her stepgrandchildren, Teresa Horton Howell and her husband, Mike, of Elkin and Ken Horton and his wife, Yvonne, of Mount Airy; her great-grandchildren, Travis Manchester, Barbi Manchester, Chrissy Mills, Janet Mills, Robin Mills, and Justin Reeves; her step-great-grandchildren, Heather Howell, Holly Howell, Joshua Horton, and Amanda Horton; her great-great-grandchildren, Corbin Manchester, Jordyn Ransdell, and David Ransdell; her special nieces and nephews, Mycleta Caudle, Pansy Jessup, Phil Wilson, Rufus Willard, Reba Hawks, Cleo Mayes, Glenna Estep, Betty Jo Hooker, and Glenda Gilley; and a special friend, Norma Hiatt of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her husband in 1967, Roy Johnny Simmons; a daughter, Lelia Simmons Horton; three sons-in-law, Doug Simmons, Joe Horton, and Larry Willard Mills; a grandson, Larry Ray Mills; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernie and Ruby Wilson, Ernest and Ada Wilson, and Lester and Ethelene Wilson. The funeral service will be held Friday, January 10, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Dr. D. Nelson Gardner and Dr. Jon Cawley officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Grove Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
