Lonnie Barnett Hawks

Mr. Lonnie Barnett Hawks, 94 of Galax, VA passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Golden Living Center-Blue Ridge in Galax. He was born in Carroll County on November 23, 1917 to the late William Taylor and Ellen Crotts Hawks. He was retired from Galax City School Systems. He served our country in the United States Air Force during WWII. Mr. Hawks is survived by his wife, Pauline Hawks of the home; two sisters, Beatrice Truman and Margie Moore both of Martinsville; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by four sisters, Bertie Smith, Lettie Harp, Delsie Felts and Lera Rippey; four brothers, Clarence, Wiley, Hubert and Eugene Hawks. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Community Chapel Church with Rev. Charles Bunn officiating. Burial will follow in the Susie Hawks Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night at the church from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Flowers will be accepted. Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy is assisting the Hawks family.
