Lou Ray Mendenhall Poindexter

Lou Ray Mendenhall Poindexter, 75, of Siloam, North Carolina passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024. Born August 7, 1949, in Surry County, to the late David Fate and Martha Pearl Collins Mendenhall. Mrs. Poindexter worked as a hairdresser for many years. She was known for her motherly nature and took such joy in being a “meme”. Lou Ray was a wonderful cook and homemaker, as well as a beloved member of the community. She loved to sing, especially while her husband Wilbur played the guitar. She also loved to dance in her younger years. Lou Ray loved Kure Beach, and looked forward to the yearly trip she and Wilbur would take to celebrate their anniversary. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters and son-in-law, Kristie Bolen and Robert, and Sherrie Cox; grandchildren, Sarah Smith and Joshua, Gavin Brame, and Cole Brame; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy Mendenhall and Pat, Phillip Mendenhall and Janet, David Mendenhall and Karen, Jenny Mendenhall, and Versie Mendenhall; beloved maltipoo, Princess; as well as special friends, Charlene Ester, Janet Fulk, Mae Hutchins and Norma Jean Poindexter. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Wilbur Poindexter; daughter, Melissa Key; sister and brother-in-law, Clara Jane Autry and Raleigh; and brothers, Odell Mendenhall, and Bobby Mendenhall. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Moody-Davis Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 25, 2024, in the Moody-Davis Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, as well as granddaughter, Sarah Smith, for being her caregiver. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care at 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
