Mrs. Louise Anner Hutson Atkins, 95, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, April 15, 2026, at her home. Mrs. Atkins was born September 3, 1930, in Surry County, the daughter of the late James Murphy “J.M.” and Mecie Etta Johnson Hutson. Louise retired from Adams-Millis Hosiery after many years of dedicated service and was a faithful member of Blackwater Baptist Church. She is survived by four daughters, Ann Crotts, Wanda Crotts, Faye Chappell, and Linda Hooker, all of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Lisa Atkins of Frederick, MD; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; five great-stepgrandchildren; forty-two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Pauline Johnson of Mount Airy; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandra and Eddie Draughn of Mount Airy; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Atkins, Jr.; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne Junior and Wanda Atkins; two sons-in-law, the Rev. Ted Crotts and Alex Crotts; a grandson; two great-grandsons; three sisters, Stella Robertson, Mary Ann Tolbert, and Lorene Perdue; and two brothers, Vance Hutson and Donald Hutson. The funeral service will be held Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Blackwater Baptist Church, with the Rev. Greg Hall, the Rev. Timmy Crotts, and Jason Hooker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, under the direction of the Rev. Alvin Stoltzfus and the Rev. Dewayne Sands. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Blackwater Baptist Church. At other times, the family welcomes friends to the home of Ann Crotts at Crotts Road, Mount Airy. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
