Obituary

Mrs. Louise Atkins Simmons, age 95 of Stuart, VA passed away peacefully on Friday, July 31, 2026 at her home. She was born on January 21, 1931 to the late Rueben Atkins and Ollie Baliles Atkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Wayne Robert Simmons; son-in-law, Harry Lee Dunn, Jr.; one sister, Frances Atkins Sheppard and her husband Issac; one brother, Edwin Atkins; and one brother-in-law, Thomas R. Inman.

She was a member of Smith River Church of the Brethren, the ladies auxiliary of American Legion, and the ladies auxiliary with the Woolwine Fire Department. She retired as the Woolwine branch manager of First National Bank of Stuart. She was an avid golfer and also enjoyed quilting and making draperies.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda S. Dunn and Rita S. Morris (Steve); two granddaughters, Tami D. Martin (Ryan) and Carey D. Brinks (Adam); two grandsons, Brad Morris (Sara) and Jason Morris (Taylor); 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; one sister, Donella Atkins Inman; three sisters-in-laws, Edna Mae Atkins, Betty Lou Simmons Clark, and Carolyn Simmons.

Funeral service for Mrs. Simmons will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at 12:00 P.M. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Logan Boyd and Donald Boothe officiating. Burial will follow at Patrick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until time of the service on Tuesday and other times at the home. Memorial donations may be made to Smith River Church of the Brethren, 2282 Bob White Road, Stuart, VA 24171, or Woolwine Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 38, Woolwine, VA 24185. The family would like to thank the staff of Amedisys Hospice, and Beverly Morrison, Nancy Griffith, and Joyce DeHart for the love and care they have shown Mrs. Simmons and the family during this difficult time.
