Lynette York Sandgren

Lynette York Sandgren, 78, of Mount Airy, NC, passed away peacefully on 01/24/2026 at her home, surrounded by her husband, Jeff; their son, Robert, and his wife, Zuleika; and their daughter, Kimberly, and her fiancé, Michelle.

Born 10/15/1947 in Oregon City, Oregon, to Max Barnes and Nita York, Lynette graduated from Eau Gallie High School in Florida and later attended college. During her life she lived in ten different states and worked in retail, transportation, nursing, bookkeeping, and cosmetology, bringing dedication and a steady work ethic to every role. She had a superb sense of beauty and style, reflected in her art collection, interior decorating, and her own artistic pursuits in painting, ceramics, several fiber arts—most notably her exquisite crochet work—and mixed-media pieces. She loved creating handmade gifts for loved ones and friends.

Lynette was also a renowned cook and baker, perhaps most famous for her unforgettable apple pies. She was known for her beauty, inside and out; her warm, generous spirit; and her incredible sense of humor – she made her husband laugh every day of their lives. Her individuality and eccentricity were beloved by all.

She is survived by her husband of almost fifty years, Jeff; her children, Robert and Kimberly; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters.

Lynette was beloved for her kindness, generosity, quick wit, and devotion to family. Her singular, shining presence will be deeply missed.
