Mabel Marie Blackburn Puckett

Mrs. Mabel Marie Blackburn Puckett, 91, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday morning January 4, 2023, at Northern Regional Hospital ~ Skilled Care Unit with her family at her side.  She was born in Surry County on December 23, 1931, to the late Sanford and Verna Crotts Blackburn.  She was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church and also a member of Grace Baptist Church.  Mrs. Puckett served alongside her husband as piano player while pastoring from 1957 until his death in 2005.  Left to cherish her memory are a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Phil Lambert, son, Larry Puckett; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Pam Puckett, Lavin and Susie Puckett, and Brian and Amanda Puckett; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Denzel and Gaye Blackburn; and by several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Puckett was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Rev. Eugene C. Puckett; sisters, Edna White, Ora Blackburn, Opal Cox, and Evelyn Sontag; half-sisters, Bertha Cox, Ethel Nichols, Iris Yopp, and Naomi McMillian; brothers, Ferrell Blackburn, Roy Blackburn, and an infant brother, Ray Blackburn; and half-brother, Elmer Blackburn.  Funeral services will be held Saturday January 7, 2023, in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00AM with Brother Jerry Pardue officiating.  Burial will follow in the Southside Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:30AM – 11:00AM at the funeral home.  The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Northern Regional Hospital Skilled Unit and to Mountain Valley Hospice for all of the care and support.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Puckett family.
