Mrs. Mabel Irene Smith Creed, 78, of Mount Airy, went to her heavenly home on Friday, September 19, 2014. She was born April 11, 1936, in Surry County, to the late Farley and Cleo Golding Smith. Mrs. Creed retired from Spencer's Inc. and was a faithful member of White Plains Baptist Church. She was truly a virtuous woman who will be missed by all who knew her. Left to cherish her memories are her faithful husband, the Rev. Roscoe J. Creed of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Betty Gail Creed of Cottonwood, AL, and the Rev. Garry and Robin Creed of Blackstone, VA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Revonda and Wade Ray of Middlesburg, FL, and Theresa and David Shockley of Fuquay-Varina; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Edna Hanks and Mary Jane and Wade Hawks, all of Mount Airy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Willie and Ola Smith and Bruce and Shelby Hawks, all of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Creed was preceded in death by her stepfather, John Hawks; a sister, Myrtle Jones; and a brother, Rufus Smith. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at 11:00 AM at White Plains Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Norman officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bill Tucker, the Rev. David Tucker, and the Rev. Tom Delph. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, September 22, 2014, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the church. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
